AboutAnnaMy fresh approach to botanical painting has enabled people from all around the world get the results they are looking for and to relax and enjoy painting whilst achieving accuracy and realism.

The Modern Flower Painter is my first book and was published by Search Press in May 2014. Now published in Russian, French and Italian too, I can honestly say I gave it my all to make it the most comprehensive and useful guide I could.

It’s been my mission to show you EVERYTHING! The first half is an extensive manual on technique, and the second half contains 6 detailed step-by-step flower portraits for you to try.

If you’re already a member of my online school, you’ll find the book is the perfect accompaniment to what you learn there.

I have many books on painting watercolour flowers and this is the BEST. Clear instructions throughout and I felt that Anna was sitting beside me every step of the way.I have painted two of the flowers so far (both good enough to frame) and look forward to painting the others.Really recommend this book for people like me with some experience or indeed a complete beginner.

The pictures here are well described as portraits, and combine the botanical appearance of old prints with a modern, vibrantly colorful approach. There are all the usual features in here from what you need to buy to color wheels, perspective, mixing colors etc, as well as intriguing sections on learning to see, getting the paint consistency right, laying out a palette and creating tone and hue.I don't think I have seen such an in-depth look at the medium before and it certainly bears reading and having a go even if you think you are past that ...
