How to paint a realistic Easter chick in watercolour

This yellow Chick would be perfect on the front of an Easter card, or make the perfect Easter time project. In this short video I run you through the process I go through to layer up watercolour and paint those fluffy feathers in my realistic style:

If you’ve enjoyed the video, please leave me a comment, I love reading them.

Happy painting,

Thank you for the video Anna. As usual it was inspirational and had I not been studying for a diploma in Botanical Illustration in Coloured Pencil I would have loved to have given it a whirl. Perhaps, when my course is finished!
Good luck with the new arrival.

Your micro-tutorial was beautiful, thank you! As a working mom of two with a passion for creativity, I find my time limited for “me” projects. But, your website inspires me to carve out that much-needed quiet time! Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your baby, there is nothing quite like the magic of motherhood!

Anna, I love your tutorials. Thank you.

I unfortunately missed your last offer of 25% off on your 6month course and was wondering if you’ll be offering it again ?
      Cheers

Loved the chick. I learned so much about mixing yellows from this video. Those are usually the worst to get different values. I would never have used the mixes you did amazing. You are so cute, I’m sure your baby is going to be adorable.

I am grateful for your short video, I just tried to make a tiny painting of a Siberian Crane chick. It was my first time doing a fluffy chick and it is not at all what I wanted to achieve. Your instructions will help me with that effort also. Thank you.

    Anna,
Thank you for the video. Each video teaches another aspect of your watercolor method. Which inspires each of us.
Congratulations on the soon to be arrival of your little girl.

Amazing how those small important details can have such a large impact, such as the direction of the paint brush to create the feathery texture. So important to control the water-to-paint ratio for whatever effect is needed. Beautiful work.

Thank you Anna for the micro video of the fluffy chick! I always like the extreme love of details and precision in all of your beautiful paintings. I live in Arizona and with this year ‘more than usual rain’ we are having the most glorious and beautiful wild flowers show. I am busy making reference photos and some of my favorites around here are the delicate flowers of cacti. Such beautiful colors too!
Congratulations and Best wishes for the imminent arrival of your baby girl!

Totally great. I’m excited because I’m going to be joining your classes at the first of next month. I have to smile, though. It looks like things are getting a bit tight when sitting up to the table to paint. Wishing you and your little girl all the best for this spring!

I loved painting this chick. Your instructions are so clear. The picture turned out so well that I’m having it framed for my 9 year old granddaughter who has always liked chickens.

I love your videos. I’m trying to teach myself to paint in watercolor and your videos are really helpful to me. I remember when I had my only child, a little girl, was born and what a thrill it was. Enjoy her while she is young as time passes by so quickly.

Thank you Anna for your tutorials. I am taking an oil painting class at a community college and am painting a duckling in a lake as my project, based on a photograph. Following your chick tutorial is helping me paint my ducky. I am most grateful.
